Back and joint pain, sciatica, scoliosis, hip discomfort and neck pains are symptoms frequently experienced by many individuals, and, under some circumstances, tend to lapse into chronicity. Moreover, people with chronic illness may have issues with their spine that may negatively impact their energy levels, organs functions, bodily systems blockages, and overall, their quality of life. Therefore, addressing these issues is of paramount importance when it comes to an individual’s well-being.
The Dorn method, also known as Dorn therapy, is a relatively new but solid and effective treatment that addresses problems such as spinal misalignment, back and joint pain, sciatica and neck/hip pain. Developed by German lay healer Dieter Dorn in the 1970’s, this method uses a different approach to skeletal issues, when compared to traditional chiropractic or physiotherapy. It combines traditional Chinese healing methods with Western medical knowledge to produce a positive effect on the spine and joints, therefore alleviating pain and discomfort, without using anti-inflammatory or pain-relieving medication.
So what does the Dorn method actually involve? Contrary to other alternative spinal and joint treatment methods, the Dorn method does not support a static correction of anatomical issues; this is done because the muscles, when static, pose a force that is difficult to overcome in order to correct underlying structures. Instead, the Dorn principles apply the so-called “dynamic” correction and alignment of the spine and joints: every manipulation, carried out with the hands, is performed in combination with movements of the patient. In this way, the movements carried out by the patient, alongside the therapist’s interventions can result in a positive effect on the body structures, as motion relaxes the area and allows for it optimal rehabilitation.
Palpation of the spine is one of the vital elements of the Dorn approach. The spine, a structure that upholds the whole body, may be misaligned; this is actually present in many of the patients presenting with back pain. Should any misaligned area be detected during palpation, the correction is done with gentle, safe pressure applied by the therapist to the area, while the patient moves their extremities in a guided way, thus enabling the whole affected area to relax. The Dorn method is one of the safest ways to actively rehabilitate skeletal and joint structures, as it addresses the problem together with the patient, who takes actively part in their own therapy.
The Dorn method is practiced by Neomed experienced therapist Zenon Zenonos and can prove very useful in a plethora of conditions, including sciatica, back pain, neck pain, fibromyalgia, headaches/migraine, scoliosis, tinnitus, and conditions that are not directly associated with pain, such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), menstrual and digestive problems, sexual dysfunction, high blood pressure and Alzheimer’s disease.
Another vital, positive aspect of Dorn therapy, is that it is also safely applicable in cases of children, who are treated in the same way as the adult patients, naturally with gentle manipulations. Given that the fact that a multitude of structural issues originate in childhood, the Dorn approach can contribute to the eradication of serious skeletal problems (e.g scoliosis) from a young age, thus improving a person’s way of living.
