Healthy Bile Is the Queen of Detox

The body’s ability to detox directly correlates to longevity and chronic illness resolution and the gallbladder and bile are often the unsung heroes of this process, as having fluid bile is the best detoxification therapy you could have.

Bile is the digestive fluid produced in the liver that passes to the gallbladder for concentration, storage and transportation in order to help the body digest fats, kill off pathogenic microorganisms, maintain blood sugar stability, and bind and excrete toxins.

Composed of bile acids and salts, phospholipids, cholesterol, pigments, water, and electrolyte chemicals that keep the total solution slightly alkaline, free-flowing bile is your body’s detox hero and a major contributing factor in terms of wellness and longevity.

As a consequence of modern lifestyles, incorrect nutrition, stress, exposure to mould and heavy metals, overmedication and pathogens, bile can become thick and sludgy, rendering it incapable of performing its proper functions. This can lead to the following health problems:

  • toxin build-up;
  • autoimmune conditions;
  • headaches and migraines;
  • thyroid dysfunction;
  • hormone imbalances;
  • small intestinal bacterial growth (SIBO);
  • skin conditions;
  • weight gain;
  • leaky gut syndrome;
  • haemorrhoids and constipation;
  • fibromyalgia;
  • lack of fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K;
  • varicose veins, among others;

Clogging of the bile ducts can also trigger chronic illness and disease because the body will struggle to remove dangerous substances. Parasites will also become permanent residents, bringing their own form of interference, which can lead to gallstones that further prevent the free flow of bile drainage into the colon. And so, health issues escalate.

If the colon cannot remove waste, it creates a backlog in the ‘drain chain’, meaning the kidneys become stressed rendering them incapable of adequately performing their job of removing fluid and waste from the body.

“Everyone needs to eliminate harmful substances from the body,” explains Neomed’s Naturopath, Dina Gavarieva. “When we don’t, they accumulate in tissues to cause chronic and degenerative diseases. All chronic illnesses are associated with an elevated toxic load.

“When we work to detox the body, many chronic illness symptoms subside, and it is easier to deal with infections and pathogens that thrive in toxic environments.”

Strategies to Support Your Bile

Bile production begins in the liver so we must ensure the liver is functioning optimally to reduce toxic exposure, improve toxin elimination and, ultimately, improve digestion.  Strategies include:

  • Eating foods that improve the bile flow: pasture-raised liver, cruciferous vegetables, bitter vegetables, antioxidant-rich berries, prebiotics, apple cider vinegar, herbs and warming spices.
  • Reducing eggs, sugar, carbs and grains.
  • Drinking plenty of pleasantly hot water throughout the day away from meals.
  • Supporting your stomach acid levels.
  • Intermittent fasting.
  • Supplements, such as digestive enzymes, phosphatidylcholine, ox bile, and bitter herbs.

Of course, it is incredibly important to seek medical advice before implementing any strategies, especially if you experience pain under the right rib cage or have been diagnosed with gallbladder stones.

Here at Neomed, we offer a number of highly-advanced and unique detox therapies for your liver and gallbladder, including intravenous cocktails, castor oil packs, mud therapy, and nutritional and naturopathic consultations, among other modalities.
